got it on a whim as a reference.
I have a hardcopy of this book from 1962 and downloaded the version for $0.99. Unfortunately, the only part of the book that downloaded was a brief table of contents for illustrations from the book, without the illustrations. I hope that this is a mistake on the part of the publisher and that they are not actually representing the version as some sort of actual book. I'll be happy to retract this review if the publisher or can shed any light on the apparent bait-and-switch...
if these guys don't know about steam, then I don't know who would. Watt, maybe?
An interesting historical narrative, but difficult to follow without the illustrations that were an integral part of the original text. Data tables are not formatted and are too difficult to read as a result. The copyright in my book is 1919.
It's a technical manual regarding boilers and steam production.
Industry standard guidebook - one of a kind.
Excellent and pretty much all inclusive guidebook on boilers and steam generation.
Do not buy! The text is horrible. It looks like somebody put the text file in Microsoft Word and print it out directly without editing. Misalignment in formulas, equations and charts. Totally unusable
Content-wise, this text looks pretty good. Lots of details about the history of steam power. However, the publisher of this particular copy, the one with pictures of books on the front (ISBN 9781466275829), took absolutely no care in preparing a reasonable copy of the work. The outside margins are nonexistent, the illustrations are straight up missing, and the tables are written as text files but printed with a non-monospace font so they're pretty much unreadable. See [...]. To top it off, the back cover has a description for a literary anthology completely unrelated to steam ("From Shakespeare's finesse to Oscar Wilde's wit,...").
I secretly find all this kinda hilarious, but I can't help but feel like I should've gotten something better for 30 bucks.
