At Agincourt G a Henty 9781491023631 Books Reviews

This was about the fifth book of Henty's that I have read and in my view it did not meet the standards of his other books. It was much slower than his other books in development. I was also rather disappointed that the Battle of Agincourt was rushed through relative to the overall story. .
Swashbuckling adventure. Good clean reading.
Excellent read on historical fiction.
If you need a medieval fix, this one will do it. It includes a wonderful account of the famous battle of Agincourt. The first two chapters are slow, but keep going, it picks up.

When 15 year old Guy is sent as a hostage to Paris, he finds himself embroiled in political turmoil. The bloodthirsty Butchers guild keeps Paris in a state of anarchy, cowing the Government officials with riots and murders. Guy goes through many hairbreadth escapes and near misses before finding himself on the battlefield of Agincourt.
The book presented an engaging and interesting story, while staying within the confines of the historical facts. As such it's a great introduction to the things happening in France prior to the battle at Agincourt. However, being fictional, and focusing on one family it comes of as somewhat neither here nor there in terms of the historical facts, the fifth star is therefore left out, not because of the story itself, but because of mine own feelings towards this, relatively, new genre; 'faction'.
That been said it is a very good read and I would highly recommend it to anybody who are either fans of the genre, or interested in a gentle introduction to the historical happenings leading up to the battle.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I will definitely read more books from this author. G.A. Henty was able to take me into a time and a place where I have never been and make me feel as though I had been there. He is a captivating writer and historical fiction is his specialty. The characters are well developed and are easy to identify with. If you like stories about castles and warriors of old, this is a good one with plenty of action. The beginning of the story is a little slow, but it is necessary to properly place a person into the time and place you will be reading about.
This was a very chivalrous, well written story set in the middle ages. It kept a reader immersed in the period by consistently using language and culture of that era. There were no lapses into modern ideals, so a reader didn't have to struggle against anachronisms. Well researched!
Those of you who are deeply engrossed in both world history and good books, this tale of heroism and tactic will always be one you could read over and over again.
